Varvsd\u00f6den avr\u00e4ttade en central del av G\u00f6teborgs identitet. Men varven var mer \u00e4n G\u00f6teborg. De var en del av skapandet av det moderna, industrialiserade och urbaniserade Sverige.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I ess\u00e4n ber\u00e4ttar jag om hur Sveriges maritima historia lever i skuggan av inlandsidentiteten, trots att Sverige \u00e4r ett kustland:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>G\u00f6teborgs havsidentitet skiljer staden fr\u00e5n \u00f6stkustens Stockholm, som ju ocks\u00e5 i grunden \u00e4r en sj\u00f6fartsstad. Stockholm \u00e4r rikets huvudstad, med blicken mot inlandet. G\u00f6teborg d\u00e4remot riktade blickarna ut mot havet; mot den internationella, transnationella och globaliserade v\u00e4rld som utm\u00e4rker maritim identitet. S\u00e5dan identitet \u00e4r ett hot mot inlandsnationalismens str\u00e4van efter isolering. Skapandet av svensk nationell identitet under 1800-talet fokuserade p\u00e5 Dalarna, som helt saknar kust. I detta inlandsideal, med t\u00e4ta skogar som skyddsmurar mot omv\u00e4rlden, passar inte G\u00f6teborg in utan problem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Boken fascinerar i sin rikedom av fakta och inte minst bildmaterial. Varven kom och gick. Idag huserar G\u00f6teborgs gamla varvsomr\u00e5den annan verksamhet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Sveriges havsn\u00e4ra regioner, sk\u00e4rg\u00e5rdar, fiskebyar, gamla hamnar och varvsomr\u00e5den genomg\u00e5r en f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring. L\u00e4ngs de svenska kajerna reser sig inte s\u00e4llan numera hotell, dyra bostadsr\u00e4tter och annat tjusigt. Gamla fiskartorp s\u00e4ljs f\u00f6r sjusiffriga belopp. M\u00f6jligen skulle K\u00e5lle betrakta denna process med en blick som \u00e4r h\u00e5rd.
